On Tuesday, January 13, 2009, an LO delegation departed for Tel Aviv. The delegation is, among other things, to meet the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) in Nablus, the General Federation of Labour in Israel (Histadrut), and the Palestine Prime Minister Fayyad in Ramallah. They will also visit the Swedish Consulate General in Jerusalem and the ILO office in Jerusalem.
LO has long-standing relations with Histadrut, and since long a development co-operation programme with PGFTU is in progress.
The LO will, together with the PGFTU leadership, discuss the trade union and political situation on the West Bank and in Gaza, and there will also be discussions on how the development co-operation is to be carried out during the next three years.
With Histadrut LO will, among other things, discuss the application of the recent agreement on co-operation between Histadrut and PGFTU.
Mr. Ulf Edström, head of the LO international department, is in charge of the delegation.
